Steven House, a geologist for over 38 years, examines a scientific reference rock book outside his car that doubles as his home. After his house was burned down in the 2013 California Pfeiffer Ridge fire that wiped out over 43 homes, he was forced to stay in his Nissan Xterra SUV permanently. Because he’s lived in Big Sur his whole life, the community supports him in finding him places to park his car at night including coastal turnouts, friend’s properties, business parking lots in town, and State colleges.
