A local farmer trows wastewaters to an irrigation channel that comes from the Santiago river and ends up in the ocean. This is a common practice in this area. These wastewaters consist in many things: human waste, pesticide residues and chemical waste. The irrigation channels are used by tobacco workers to clean themselves and their belongings, some of them even drink from this water.
