Burying the Lead

14 Dec Burying the Lead

With the loss of court records due to Typhoon Haiyan, some prisoners feared that the judicial process has been completely crippled and the future of all of the inmates and the livelihoods of their families lies lost in limbo. Even before the disaster, one particular inmate had been residing at Leyte Provincial Jail for over 10 years awaiting a trial.

At the time, I asked the inmates to list down the family members that were staying with them at the prison, where they were from, the crime that they were being tried for, and how long the incarcerated had been staying at the prison.

These makeshift releases were written on scrap pieces of paper found on site.
