5TH ANNUAL MOPLA PRESENTED OVER 60+ EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS FOR THE MOST SUCCESSFUL FESTIVAL TO DATE!
The 5th installment of Month of Photography Los Angeles was the most successful festival to date. With the support and collaboration of dozens of entities, MOPLA presented over 60 events and exhibitions in a 30-day period, showcasing hundreds of photographers from Los Angeles and beyond. Thank you to each and every attendee, supporter, collaborator and photographer involved in MOPLA 2013 - Wide Angle: Exploring New Photography from Los Angeles and Beyond.
See some highlights below. We hope to see you again in 2014!

Photographer Shaughn Crawford curated and participated in our first-ever Instagram Jam featuring 20+ Instagram sensations worldwide, hosted by the unique and ever-evolving Graffiti House LA, who added their voice by spray painting our logos on the inside of the building. This event also raised money for our annual youth program, SNAPSHOP!, with a silent auction of Instagram prints. Stay tuned for this project again next year; it was a huge success.

We were thrilled to present a number of incredible, never before seen, exhibitions by local and international photographers, including Kirk Pedersen, Susan Swihart, Tom Paiva, Maria Jose Sesma, Thibault Brunet, Motonori Shimizu, Stephanie Roland, Brian Cross (aka B+), Verge Artists (Claire Mallett, Marjorie Salvaterra, Jamie Johnson, Rico Mandel and Liz Huston) all speaking to the 2013 theme Wide Angle: Exploring New Photography From Los Angeles and Beyond.
For the fourth year in a row, MOPLA and Smashbox Studios joined forces for the annual group show. As usual, the submissions were incredible and the event was packed to the gills at Smashbox Studios Hollywood (now Quixote Studios).

organized by MOPLA veteran curator, Stephanie Gonot, who organized 30 photographers into a group show where guests could write on and mail postcards - sending contemporary photography around the world. Moo sponsored the printing of these postcards and we'll be opening an online store in a few short weeks to start selling these gems. We definitely wish you were there.

Rooftop projections and the LA Times photobooth, combined with lively auctioneers (MOPLA Co-Founder Hossein Farmani and photgrapher/actress Alexandra Hedison) made for a successful first-ever SNAPSHOP! fundraiser, raising dollars to support Lucie Foundation's four-Saturday workshop, serving talented, but under-served youth who are passionate about photography. It was an exciting way to close the month and directly support the 2013 SNAPSHOP! program.

SNAPSHOP! 2013YOUTH PROGRAM COMPLETES FOUR-SATURDAY WORKSHOP ON MAY 25. EXHIBITION OF YOUTH WORK SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 15, 2013.
We just wrapped our annual youth program on Saturday, May 25, and we were extremely impressed by the work created during the program. Youth ages 13 - 18 attended four hands-on, one-on-one Saturday workshops, shooting and critiquing work, completing homework assignments, and editing and articulating their thoughts about their work – all in a warm and supportive environment. This year's program was generously supported by the Immordino Charitable Foundation, as well as with funds raised during the Lucie Foundation Live Auction Fundraiser that took place at the end of MOPLA.

We are excited and are looking forward to June 15 where we'll present the best work of the SNAPSHOP! Class of 2013. |
