E-pprentice is the Lucie Foundation's online mentor program and electronic apprenticeship. It's a free program that is open to the public. Mentees are selected through an online submission process. By utilizing the internet as the platform for connecting individuals worldwide, E-pprentice allows for a dynamic, web-based exchange guided by a suggested curriculum and lasting a duration of six months. This modern mentorship utilizes instant messaging and video chat program to allow critique and discussions to occur. At the end of the exchange, it is our intention for the mentee to create new work guided by the advice of a succesful and seasoned professional, and to also gain invaluable, insightful, long-term guidance and support that will be useful in enhancing their photographic careers.

Sarah Szwajkos

Sarah Szwajkos has been photographing for nearly twenty years, and began making images for clients in 2008. Her commercial work grew out of her fine art project Personal Space, photographs made alone in the homes of friends and acquaintances. Asking the question, “How do everyday objects in our homes unveil the order and the disorder of modern life?”Her commercial work extends this to architecture, portrait, lifestyle and wedding photography. She is working on two new art projects: portraits of people singing and a series of memento mori still lifes. |

Jennifer Richter

With my work I tend to go from one extreme to the other. It focuses on compositional elements from abstract form, calming aspects, movement, the silence of a place, humor, urban landscape, and personal projects. There is a thread that carries through within my work from project to project. I have found that going back to what interested me as a child and my life experiences is where some of my ideas come from; other ideas come from research and being an observer of life around me. I play with the ideas to come up with images to express them. |

Photography is the channel I have chosen to communicate with the outside world, to bring to the fore stories of ordinary people. I realize with each passing day that life and the process of leading it is an extremely non-trivial affair and one not as evident as it might seem. I wish to bring this out in my images: the stuggle of ordinary people grappling to come to terms with the drama of life. I try to bring out the similarities between two great nations: France and India, similarly rich in their glorious pasts, political fervorsand religious traditions. |

The very first time I remember taking a photograph was when my father asked me to photograph my family at the beach. I was only 10 or 11, and i felt I had done something important. My first chance in photography was with Details Magazine in New York. I travel to New York many times a year and I have a newer attraction, a newer research for a pristine light, and an opening for colors and clear air. I find places around the world to photograph, I look for lines and color and light that go along with my thoughts about photography, from urban landscape to portraits. |

"“There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in” sings Leaonard Cohen, to which I’ll add that there’s beauty in everything. I’ve always been amazed by the perfect balance in colors, shadows, light, lines and curve, that we find in great photographs. It’s at the same time a statement and an open door to imagination.
In my photographs, I try to express my vision and creativity. I also try to “register”, to freeze the daily moments which one day we’ll call history or History." |
